Orient SET0T002B0 Classic Sun and Moon Automatic Watch Review

The Orient SET0T002B0 Classic Sun and Moon Automatic Watch has a round 42.5 mm stainless steel case and comes with a leather strap. It features Orient’s in house automatic Japanese 46b46 movement and has two subdials, one showing the days of the week at the 3 o’clock position and the other showing the sun and moon at the 10 o’clock position. It has a bell shaped date window between the 7 and 8 o’clock position and the hours are marked with classic roman numerals. The dial is black with silver hands and hour markings which are clear and crisp and make the watch very easy to read. It is water resistant up to 50 meters and is covered with scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The watch is secured by a push button deployed clasp which helps protect the leather from getting bent during closing.

This is a dress watch and therefore there is no luminescence on the hour markers or the hands or indices. It has an exhibition, screwed down back which displays Orient’s in house Japanese automatic self-wind movement with 25 jewels. The Sun and Moon indicator makes for a stunning visual as it follows the hour hand to mark the passing of the sun and moon throughout the day. It is a beautiful addition and a unique way to decorate a watch.

Orient has several varieties of the sun and moon watch, each with a different colour dial. They come in black, blue, white and rose gold. Each one uses basically the same in house Japanese movement and the same scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass. The only difference being the colour of the dial, hands and strap. Most of these watches come with a leather strap but there is one with a stainless steel bracelet if leather straps are not your preference.

In 1901, watchmaker Yoshida Shogoro opened a clock shop and the Orient brand was born. Since then Orient has become a household name not only in japan but worldwide. They are one of the only watchmakers today who use their own in house movement and have introduced a wide variety of dress, sport, and even dive watches to the world.

Orient watches are sturdy and well-built. The Classic Automatic series comprises of Automatic watches with a combination of over 100 years of experience, classical styling and the latest in watch technology.
